When you think of Sweden, you rarely think of beaches, but believe it or not Sweden is home to several popular beaches. Sweden is a country known for its winter activities, but it’s also beautiful land with breathtaking beaches. If you happen to visit Sweden in the summer, you will have no problem finding a beach to swim, hunt for seashells, and catch some rays at shore. There are plenty of activities for couples and families to enjoy at one of Sweden’s beloved beaches. Here is a list of the best beaches you must see in Sweden.
Sandhammaren is at the southernmost point of Sweden, in Skane, and is one of Skane’s most popular beaches. Sandhammaren has won several awards for being Sweden’s best beach, and is often referred to as being the most delightful out of all Sweden’s beaches. With its dunes at the back and long, linear stretch of beautiful white sand pushing out west and east along the cape towards the horizon, this enormous sandpit is perfect for playing on the beach or sunbathing in the water on a scorching summer day. Alternatively, the dunes and inland pine forests can be enjoyed during any season. Sandhammaren’s lighthouses are a well-known landmark to beach-goers. The lifeboat stations is open daily from April until October. Guided tours in the lighthouse are available during summer months only. There is also a kiosk where visitors can purchase food while out on the beach. It can be challenging to find parking spots if you don’t arrive early during the month of July, as that is the busiest time of year for Sandhammaren. If you are up feeling spontaneous after a day of relaxing and swimming, there’s a nature reserve with a huge array of wildlife and birds, as well as Sweden’s most southerly herd of elk just north of the beach.
Ribersborg beach of Malmo, Sweden, is the body of water between Sweden and Denmark, perfect for everyone to enjoy. Tanto Beach is located at Tantolunden Park in Stockholm, Sweden, where the large green space meets a sandy white beach. In Swedish, “tanto” means glamour gran. This beach is one of the most popular in Stockholm, and that’s because of its tropical vibe. If it’s summer and you’re looking for a Stockholmer, you’ll more than likely find them at Tanto Beach. A unique factor of this beach is that it features smooth wooden pontoons to lounge on if you aren’t a fan of sand. With numerous shops and bars located nearby, Tanto Beach is the perfect place to hangout and enjoy a hot summer day. On warm days, locals flock to the seaside and visiting tourists can’t get enough of this gorgeous beach. This is the perfect place to sunbathe and swim when the temperatures gets hot. From swimming to gathering with friends in the sand, Tanto Beach is enjoyable for everyone. There are several summer activities that take place at Tantolunden Park, where there are picnic spots and play areas for children. Although there is no place to barbecue, there is an ice cream van and trusty korv stand, and the park isn’t but a few blocks away from all of the city’s restaurants and cafes. Keep in mind that there isn’t much shade at the shoreline, so bring a small beach tent or umbrella if you’ve got children with you and don’t want to get burned.
Whether you’re wanting to soak up the sun while tanning or surf the waves, there’s no better place to do so than at one of these beautiful beaches in Sweden.
