Avicii is the stage name of Tim Bergling. He was born on 8th of September 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden. He started his early career as a member of Laidback Luke Forums where his developed his early deep house skills. He started as Avicii in May 2007 when he signed a contract with Dejfitts Plays Label. Avicii stands for the lowest stage of the Buddhist Hell. He started mixing when he was only eight years old in his bedroom and has grown in success ever since.
He stated that his major influencers were Daft Punk, Swedish House Mafia and Eric Prydz. He said that he started listening to Daft Punk long before he even know what house music was. In 2011 he launched the song called “Levels” that propelled his music career. The song was in top 10 in many countries. After this he released several reinterpretations of songs from Etta James. He collaborated with many artists like Flo Rida, David Guetta, Madonna and many others.
He had a long history of festival presences but the true hit came in 2012 when he was one of the featured artists at Lollapalooza. On January 9th 2013 he launched the project Avicii X You in partnership with Ericsson. This would be one of the first crowd-sourced songs in history. Fans were invited to send recording of them singing or playing an instrument. The song was released in 2013 under the name X YOU and was a total hit. He was nominated for the Grammy Awards in 2013 alongside with Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia and Ne-Yo.
He toured many European Countries, Australia, North America and began his South American tour in 2013. He also took part in the composition of the 2013 Eurovision song that represented Sweden. In 2014 FIFA announced that Avicii was one of the collaborating artists for the official anthem alongside Wyclef, Carlos Santana and Alexandre Pires. In 2015 and 2016 he did a lot of touring all over the world. At the end of 2016 he announced that he retires from touring from health reasons.
In 2017 he released his third album declaring that he is very excited to be back in the music world. In September 2017 Avicii announced the release of the documentary called Avicii:True Stories. He is also very active in philanthropy. He decided to start House of Hunger in 2011. The purpose was to alleviate world hunger. He collaborated with many other associations that help children in Africa and worldwide. He stated that he feels that this is a duty of a successful artist and that the feeling of giving back can’t be compared with anything else.
We will see Avicii launch new amazing music in the years to come. He is very versatile and likes to take inspiration from all sorts of music genres. He stated that he enjoyed his collaboration with every artist and that he tried to learn something from each one of them. He is one of the most prolific European musicians.
